The BIG Center and Carol and Gene Ludwig Initiative in Neuroimmunology Research provides seed grants to support high-risk/high-reward research projects in the promising area of neuroimmunology of aging-associated disorders, with the goal of building a cohort of researchers focusing on the mechanisms of neurodegeneration and translation of the new knowledge into clinically useful tools.

Eligibility

Tenured or tenure-track Faculty on an Investigator Track may request up to $100,000 and must be an active member of the BIG Center (new members are welcome, assuming they will actively participate in BIG center activities).  The program is expected to fund two grants per year over the next 3 years (renewals are allowed for successful proposals).

Projects will be reviewed by BIG Center Leadership that will consider scientific merit, innovation, potential for external funding, and ability to advance understanding of neuroimmune interactions in aging-related neurodegenerative disorders.

Interim progress report of 1 page + budget report is expected 5 months after the start. Continuation of funding will depend on the progress made. No cost extension is allowed.

Each funded investigator is expected to be an active member of the BIG center seminar series and will present their finding ~10 months after the start of the program as part of BIG seminar series.

Topics of Interest
